Futuredesh: Transforming Bangladesh’s Agriculture Amidst Political and Climate Challenges

Futuredesh, a pioneering social capital venture, is making strides in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh, despite the hurdles posed by political and climate challenges. This venture, which connects British investors with Bangladeshi farmers, has begun to make a tangible difference in the lives of farmers across Mymensingh and Sylhet. With over 360 farmers and eight cluster managers now on board, Futuredesh’s network is steadily growing, fostering sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

Since its launch, the initiative has already seen success stories emerge. In June 2024, Futuredesh distributed cattle to several farmers. At the time, the animals were small calves, aged between 10 and 15 months. Within a few months, these calves have grown into healthy bulls, thanks to the care and attention provided by the farmers. Within another six to eight months, they will be ready for sale, generating significant profits for both the farmers and their investors.

Moslek Uddin, Futuredesh’s Fund Manager, who handed over the cattle, said, “How much difference a bit of love and care can make. Organic feed is good for the cattle, nature, and humans.”

With ambitions to scale, Futuredesh aims to provide over 700 cattle in Mymensingh and Greater Sylhet. However, support from UK-based investors remains crucial to achieving this goal. Futuredesh operates as a social capital venture, ensuring mutual benefits for all parties: investors, farmers, and Futuredesh itself, which facilitates the entire process.

“Our ambition is to make Bangladesh the breadbasket of South Asia, if not the world,” said Sajjadur Aziz Malik, founder of Futuredesh. “We want Bangladesh to become a leader in advanced climate economies, while ensuring that every citizen has a regular income and the opportunity to create jobs, not just seek them.”

The CEO of Futuredesh, Zabin, echoed the importance of their work, saying, “It’s a challenge on the ground with all the political and climate issues, but that’s why our work is all the more important.”

Futuredesh’s mission extends beyond agriculture. By addressing food security and tackling the climate challenges facing Bangladesh, the organisation is laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and equitable future. Through innovative farming practices and community-driven projects, Futuredesh hopes to reshape Bangladesh’s future on the global stage.

“These cattle belong to two hardworking farmers in Mymensingh, and seeing the smiles on their faces makes all our efforts worthwhile,” added Malik. “By joining Futuredesh and investing in this venture, you can help write the next chapter in Bangladesh’s story – a Futuredesh that we can all be proud of.”

As Futuredesh continues its journey, it invites investors to join in, ensuring that both farmers and investors benefit from the shared vision of progress and prosperity.
